Sydnie has always loved listening to stories and curling up with Mom and Dad to read a book. It has always been a special activity to ground and calm and just remind us what is important. We wouldn't trade the snuggle time for anything!! Lately, we haven't had much time to read and enjoy books together, not to mention play time. Sydnie has gone through the typical three-year-old reaction to the upheaval in her world. She was feeling left out Saturday as I was painting and Daddy was cutting tile, and so she decided to paint...the floor...ugh. I did clean it up and we moved on, after some serious lesson learning. Since then, Syd has gravitated toward stories on tape/cd. She has spent literally hours in her room playing with her doll house, legos, cars and listening to stories like: Nate the Great, The Meanest Doll in the World, Junie B. Jones, The Magic Tree House, Treasure Island, Theater Shoes, Geronimo Stilton. We are running errands tomorrow, taking a break from paint, and I am hoping to go to the library and check out some new stories. Maybe the Ballet Shoes will be a good story...we must change the listening line-up-one can only hear lines from Nate the Great for only so long :) She has decided that dragon stories are fun, but it is very hard to find dragon stories that aren't too scary for a little one. We'll keep looking, maybe we'll find some others.
We are very proud of how Sydnie is handling the changes overall. She has her emotional times, but she is trying very hard to understand and deal with everything. If stories help occupy her as we finish the work, stories it is!! The end is in sight, that the Lord above. Soon we'll be able to have a little more variety in our day. Preschool is starting Monday, which she is certainly looking forward to. I'll let you know how it goes.
